1979 Provo UT & Batesville IN

January:  Jennifer learned to say pretty!  It's so cute.  If she really likes something it's "ooo pretty!"  She says "ooo" suckin in and then with a gust of air says "pwitee".  She's also been trying to say Peek a boo.

I was at the laundry unloading the dryer when I heard people laughing.  I looked up and there was Jennifer turning in circles and swinging her arm making the small box of Tide that she snatched from somewhere fly all over the place.

Jennifer has started saying Thank you!  "Tane too"

Jennifer's first birthday!

February:
Jennifer's Klingler grandparents and great grandparents came
for the party in Provo.  Also cousins Blair & Elizabeth Nelson
and Ron & Nita Klingler.

March:  Today while at the laundry, Jennifer disappeared while I was busy unloading the clothes.  I ran outside and saw her in the middle of the street!  I ran after her and she giggled and ran faster. Hhhhh.  Having a little one is more challenging than I thought it would be but also, she's brought more joy into my life than I ever thought a child could bring. I look at her while she's sleeping in her crib and feel such joy and gratitude.

Chris took Jenny for a walk and when they got home she was carrying sticks and rocks and an old tennis ball she found in the bushes.  She insisted on carrying them all herself.  She also ran over to a girls apartment basement window and peeked in.  They all ran to the window laughing and waving to her.

March 23 I woke up in the night because Jennifer was coughing and I checked to see if she was uncovered.  I couldn't get back to sleep and as I was thinking about how blessed I felt, this poem came to my mind. (Sometimes my thoughts just describe themselves to me all on their own!)  This is a little over dramatic but ha ha...  “Oh that I were this lunch bag, that all the day I’d be carried by you.  And then, Oh that I were these tender morsels, that I may feel your warm lips at noon.  But sigh, ‘tis only my mind which must embrace thee when my arms are free.  Speed on fair day, that my love may fill these empty arms.”  I wrote it down and in the morning put it in Chris’s lunch bag.

March 26th - Mike got his mission call to Tahiti.  He will serve in the Cook Islands.

Idaho Falls Temple with Steels, Klinglers & Troniers

End of the semester has been rough for Chris having such long papers to write and for me typing them.  Even stayed up all night, Chris writing the paper as I typed it.

                               Summer job in Batesville Indiana
Chris got a job at Hillenbrand who makes hospital furniture, caskets & American Tourister Luggage.   Batesville is a town of about 5,000.  It's about an hour SE from Indianapolis and an hour west from Cincinnati Ohio and an hour or so north of Louisville Kentucky.  It is a beautiful town, very green and very hot and humid.  We got acquainted with tornado sirens and had the most booming thunder storms I'd ever experienced.

This is the little house we got to live in.

Jennifer and Fraser Bullock also got a job with Hillenbrand. Chris and Fraser were friends from BYU...in the same study group.  We had fun together all summer.  A church branch was just organized last year and we met in an old furniture warehouse. Stake Conference is in Cincinnati.  (They used to have to go to church in Louisville.)  I volunteered once a week at the hospital gift shop.

North Dakota

Rather than just beeline over to Batesville, we made our trip to Indiana fun. South Dakota was really pretty.  We went through Jewel Cave and Wind Cave.  We saw buffalo, prairie dogs, antelope and deer.  We went to the Crazy Horse Monument and Mt. Rushmore, Badlands National Monument.  In Iowa we toured the Proctor and Gamble Co and they gave us a gift pack at the end.  (secret deodorant, Scope mouthwash, Crest toothpaste, Prell shampoo, Camay soap).  In Illinois went went to Nauvoo!  We loved it so much we stayed the night near by and went again the next day.  We moved into Batesville May 4th.  We rented a cute house from the Hartman's and there's even a rhubarb patch!  Norma Hartman came by the next day and brought us a plant.

There's the cutest little German town nearby called Oldenburg.  We just love it.  I fell in love with a little organ grinder music box / incense burner but it was too expensive.  Chris then surprised me with it for Mother's Day!

June: Went to the Cincinnati Zoo with Bullocks.

A letter I wrote to my family from Jennifer:  Dear Grandpa, Grandma, Kevin, David, Steven,  I just got out of the bathtub where I have been practicing to swim under water like I do in a pool.  I love to sit at the top of the tub & slide down & splash real hard till the carpets all wet.  Today I grabbed a whole handful of bread out of the sacrament tray.  I don't know why mom and dad didn't think it was very funny - everyone else was laughing.  Love & miss you, Jenny

July: Jennifer can get out of her crib with the bars up!  She leans over until she falls out onto her head.   She  sometimes hurts herself but does it again and again!  So - we now keep the bar down and a chair by the crib so that she won't hurt herself.  She is also potty training really well.  She uses a little potty chair.

Jennifer can count.  She says "One, Two" while moving her fingers up and down.  It's so cute.  She's also thinks it's fun to talk loud in church during the prayer.  I guess because it's so quiet in there.

The playground across the street from us in Batesville

We were packing to go camping and noticed the backdoor open and Jennifer was missing.  I ran out to the back but she wasn't there.  Chris ran out the front and found her across the street climbing the slide in the school playground!  Little scamp!! She loves to go over there.  She begs to "Swing swing".

Very special rescued teddy bear!

Aug 9th
Today when we went out to Hartman's I found a cute teddy bear on the trash can
at the end of their driveway, which they said I could have.  I washed it with the laundry this afternoon & painted the eyes & it looks really cute.  Jennifer loves it so much!

This month we had some fun weekend trips.  OakRidge Tenn (got to see where I lived as a baby) Sevierville and Pigeon Forge.  Went to Magic World there and loved it.  It's a little amusement park.  Another trip was to Mammoth Ntl Park in Kentucky.  Went through Frozen Niagara Cave.  We got 1/2 price tickets to King's Island amusement park in Cincinnati.

Jennifer is growing up and talking so much.  Chris accidently knocked her over and she looked at him and said "It hurt Daddy".  She ran into me with her little fire engine and said "Sorry" then sat next to me and patted my back saying in a sweet voice "It's okay".  She then gave me a kiss.  Such a cutie.

We are really excited!  We're expecting another baby!

Jennifer sees beauty everywhere.  She loves to see dandelion fluff float through the air She was excited over the reflection of the moon in the wading pool. She ran to me “Mommy, Mommy come see the rainbow!” Sure enough a beautiful rainbow was all swirled in a puddle in the gutter. If only we could all see the rainbows in the gutters.

August 18th we bid farewell to Batesville and headed back home to Provo via Rexburg.  It was a delightful summer and we hope perhaps to be here after Chris graduates.  We boxed up our stuff and shipped it freight. On our way home we went to the Buffalo Bill Museum.

This is what Jenny does when
we ask her to smile!

Sept 2nd:  moved back to Provo.  Very excited to get to be at Wymount Terrace finally!
Quilt I made with an embroidery tool

8th: Took Jennifer to the doctor because she had a rash.  Turns out she has Roseola and mild tonsillitis.

21st:  I went to Dr Smoot today to confirm pregnancy and we are due March 15th.  We are very excited to have another child.  Also today we hiked up to Timp Cave.  What a hike!  Jenny did great.  Most beautiful cave we've ever seen!

We put door grips on the doors so that Jenny can't open them.  Today she accidentally shut herself in her room.  It scared her and she started crying.  After a little bit she stopped crying, knocked on the door & said "Come In!"  :)  It was so adorable.

Took a trip to Southern Utah (Zions and St. George) and Grand Canyon in AZ

Oct 16:  Got to hear the heartbeat of our little baby.

Dec 4
When I was on my way home from town today Jennifer pointed at the mountains and said "Oh!  Booful rock!  Booful Rock!"  ha ha  She has learned to talk so young!  Two of her first phrases was "BYU!" and "Go Cougars!" ha ha ha

Dec:
22nd On our way to Rexburg for Christmas we stopped in the Orem Mall for a couple last minute gifts and to find a Santa for Jenny. Well, we didn't get a Santa picture but we did get a cookie monster pic! In ZCMI there was a huge blue cookie monster walking around. He looked about 7ft tall and Jennifer just loved him. She ran over and stood staring up at him. He stooped down to her which was so cute. As we were leaving she reached her hand out and said "I want to have it monster." She kept saying "Bye Monster, bye monster."
