1980 Provo Ut & Waltham MA

1980 Staring Sharilyn Kay King! :)

This cute little bundle of joy
joined our family on March 10th.

Jan 31:  Jennifer got a real treat today! She and I were at the Marriott Center waiting in line for Basketball tickets.  As we were getting up to the front of the line Jenny pointed and said excitedly "There's Cosmo!!" (Two team players and Cosmo were out on the floor practicing). Cosmo heard her and he picked her up!!  She was so excited and in such awe!  Jenny is really fun at the ball games because she cheers and claps to the rhythm and knows many of the chants.

There was a special a Penny's and also Sprouse Reitz for a photo shoot.  I took Jenny and got her picture taken.  Turned out so cute.  Only 95cents!

Penney's and Sprous-Reitz had a great 95c special so I got one from each!

 Tues Feb 5

Jennifer was SO sweet last night. I was tucking her into bed and she reached her arm up to me and said "Lay down mommy."  I laid down by her and she sweetly took the blanket off of herself and put it on me and said "You keep warm." She gave me a big hug and said "I love you mommy".  That just melted my heart! Tears came to my eyes as I laid pondering this unselfish act & I prayed a prayer of gratitude to Heavenly Father for blessing us with this amazing little girl.
I also can't believe how well she talks!  Like the other night I brought her a drink.  She drank it and said "Oh that was real good mommy.  Thank you so much."

Feb 6
Today is Jennifer's 2nd birthday.  This morning while I was wrapping her presents she walked in and said "What's going on here?" (one of her favorite sayings)  I told her I was getting things ready to go to Idaho to see Grandma and pa and she said with a huge smile "Oh! Thank you so much!"   She's been begging to go to "Hiho" all week.

12th:  Spent the weekend in Rexburg.  On our way home Jennifer said "I want to go to Rexburg!  I want to see Merry Christmas!"  All the way home she was naming names of people she wanted to see and she cried when she saw our apartment.

17th At church it was so funny.  They had a big metal garbage can & Jennifer thought Oscar the Grouch was in it. She kept saying "Mommy there's Oscar!" and trying to get him to come out. HAHAHA

Some of Jenny's sayings now are "No way Mom" when I ask her to do something.  When I get after her for something she says "Don't worry Mom, I'm eating." which is from an Arby's commercial.

March 2nd
Jenny is such a little protective mama.  Like when we went to Utah Lake where she just LOVES watching the ducks.  She kept saying "You be careful ducks!  Be careful of that water!"  And one time I put her to bed for a nap.  Through the window she saw kids playing outside and called down to them "Kids, Kids!  I'm crying!  Kids! Don't run in the street!"  She is so funny.

                                            Sharilyn Kay King
Monday March 10: at 6:45am Sharilyn Kay King joined our family. She is a gorgeous little sweetie. She is so feminine and petite.

My Mom came down by bus the next day and stayed to help.  This first week Jennifer has been struggling with jealousy and really clung to Mom and cried when she got back on the bus to go home.  She kept saying "I just want Grandma."

Long story short, Dad and others really wanted to see our new baby Sharilyn. At the end of the month, Chris was going to be out of town for job interviews.  There was a flight deal from SLC to IF so Chris left for Memphis and shortly after we flew to IF. Jennifer was saying "We're going up in the sky where the little bird rest!" Sharilyn go a 1st flighter certificate.
Just home from the hospital, Provo

On April 14 we took little Sharilyn to the hospital for surgery.  She was born with a mass of little cysts all tied together intertwined with nerves and attached to the jaw bone.  It was quite a procedure to remove but was done successfully.  The incision was on a natural skin line in the neck and stitches were on the inside.  The doctor was so sweet and gentle and we felt so blessed.  It was hard to have her up there for almost 3 days.

Sharilyn is such a cutie and I just love that she is very cuddly. :)

           Preparing to move to Boston

Apr 24th we went to Rexburg.  The girls are staying there while we go for a few days to Boston to look for a place to live. The company is flying us out but Chris found a fare with Eastern for $50 less and with unlimited mileage.  We are going with Fraser and Jennifer who are also moving to Boston but with a different company.

I was worried leaving the girls.  I put some sugarless candies in a jar, one for each day we're gone and explained to her that she can eat one each day and when they're gone, we'd be home.  She seemed to understand.  She waved goodbye and told us to have fun.  I couldn't keep back my tears as I watched her be so sweet and brave. I'm afraid I missed the girls even before we left.

Me with Captain Black in Nassau!
Chris's job in Boston is with Strategic Information
This airline special of traveling from point A to B
with any stops in-between for no extra charge was a delightful excursion.
We made a stop in Florida and the Bahamas!

In the Bahamas we took a bus from Nasau to the Holiday Inn on Paradise Island.   Bullocks met us there!  (Fraser got a job with Bain.)  This place has slot machines.  Chris had 3 quarters and decided to put them into a the machine.  Fraser said "Let's all watch Chris lose his money."  Chris said "I only have 3 quarters and that's all I'll play."  He put in the first quarter and out came $12.50 in quarters!!  We all laughed in disbelief!  Chris scooped up the quarters and we walked out.

Back Home to Provo
Jenny was so happy to see us when we got home from Boston!  I was sure excited to see the girls.   We brought Jennifer Mickey Mouse ears, t-shirt & drinking glass. Sharilyn seemed to do ok on bottles while we were gone and she was just so very cuddly.  I love that she loves to cuddle and rock in the rocking chair.  We're so pleased with her healing.  One side of her little mouth was crooked when she would cry.  The doctor said it could take a week, month or year to heal but it's almost gone now. We feel so grateful.

17: This morning there was a candidates parade downtown.  Chris drove the vehicle for Dad Clarke and I made signs for the car.  There

May 29:  Jennifer is so smart!  Our ward had a Hawaiian Luau activity where Chris played his ukulele.  As we were getting ready for it, dressing in Hawaiian clothes, Jenny saw us and said "Aloha!"  We were so shocked!!  A couple weeks ago Sesame Street was in Hawaii so we think she learned about Hawaii and Aloha from that!  What a smarty!

  Moving to Boston
SI is paying the cost of  a moving company for us.  Having the movers come and load our things into a van was hard for Jennifer.  She kept saying to the movers "You can't take that!  That's my mommies!" She wasn't happy about her bed and toys getting loaded into the truck.  We sat down and explained things to her and she understood.

We began our journey east by stopping to say goodbye to family in Rexburg.  It was very hard and teary.

We made our very long drive to Boston fun by making stops in fun places like Canyon Lands, Arches and Hovenweep (Like a mini Mesa Verde) Carlsbad cave.

Jenny is such a water bug!  She just LOVES swimming even if the water is cold!

We are still having trouble now and then with the VW bug and had to push start it a few times.
New Salem IL (Lincoln's Town)

We enjoyed Independence Visitors Center,
Liberty Jail, Far West & Adam-Ondi-Ahman.  We also drove around Hannible and went thru Mark Twains cave.  We went to New Salem Ill and walked around Lincoln's town.

One stop was in lovable Batesville Indiana where we lived last summer. We visited some friends there and it made me homesick for this little town.  I was just sure we would return here to live but we just drove through all our memories and onto the next stop.

We went on a tour through the Kirtland Temple, the Newel K. Whitney store & the Johnson Home. We spent the night in Buffalo and the next day we went to Niagara Falls.

As we got out of the car, Jennifer saw a man sleeping on a park bench and she ran over to him saying the she wanted to sing "Skeeters" to him! ha ha ha!  (Skeeters Am a Hummin' is what Grandma Clarke always sang to her)

We loved going to Palmyra and visiting Hill Comorah, Sacred Grove and the Joseph Smith home.

June 1st: We arrived at our new town!  We went to get something to eat and little Jenny was in a highchair singing "If ya eat too much ooo, ooo, you'll awake with a tummy ache!"  She was rubbing her tummy and all!  She was cuter than Shirley Temple!  Everyone was very amused!

28th Kevin got his mission call to Switzerland -French speaking area.  I think it also includes France.

Jennifer was talking and talking and chattering on.  I laughed and told her she was a little chatterbox.  “I’m not a chapstick box.  I’m not a box at all and that’s not funny one little bit!”

August 1st went to the Hill Cumorah Pageant.

Favorite show, Sesame Street

July 2nd - at dinner out of the blue Jenny started talking about "the witch and the witches house" and how she gave her a popsicle and read a story and "I just cried and cried to her".   She was talking about Vicki Clarke!  For some reason in Provo after Vicki babysat Jenny, she has called her a witch and we can't understand why.  As Jenny was talking about this, Chris got a strange look on his face and said to me "By the way, Vicki is in town!"  That was so weird!  She's psychic!

July 4th - What a fun 4th of July!  We took the subway into Boston & joined around 250,000 people in the Esplanade to hear the Boston Pops. While waiting for the concert to start, people began building human pyramids. As the people around clapped and cheered Jennifer yelled "GO COUGARS!" Ha ha ha it was so cute.    Jennifer and Sharilyn were both so good.  Sweet little Sharilyn was so smiley everyone ooo'd and awe'd over her.

August 21 - Oh it was so funny!  I was reading a Sesame Street story to the girls about Burt getting a haircut.  Jenny stopped me and started telling me about how she got her hair cut at Grandma Klingler's at the ladies house who has a little girl.  She said "And Stevie got his hair cut and I just wouldn't hold still and Stevie just wouldn't hold still and the lady sprayed some spray on my hair so the mosquitoes wouldn't bite my head."  Ha ha ha

Sept 7: Went on a little camping trip to VT.  Jennifer has a "Just Me and My Dad" book where they go camping and carry a canoe on top of the car.  Jennifer was all excited to go camping but got very concerned when we didn't have a canoe on the top of our car.   Camping was gorgeous and peaceful.  We had it all to ourselves because it's the week after Labor Day when everyone else went!

Curious kitty visiting our camp at the Joseph Smith Memorial So. Royalton VT

Sharilyn is doing so much!  She sits and crawls and even stands up to things.  She's so cute and we are doing a great job spoiling her.

Sept 29: A visit from our dear Bestima & Bestifa Tronier   We took them everywhere and just loved their week with us.  I even swallowed some  extra gulps of bravery and drove them downtown Boston.

They have beautiful swan boats here that we hoped to ride but they weren't out today.

I went for a walk with Jenny in the stroller and Sharilyn on her lap.  I got several double takes from passers-by who laughed and said "I thought she was holding a doll and then it moved!"  ha ha!  Yes, Sharilyn is a little doll.  She is such a beautiful baby.  Every where we go people ooo and awe over her.

Sept 14 - When Jenny said her prayers tonight she said "Bless Jenny to see grandma and grandpa Klingler and grandma and grandpa Clarke and bless me not to kiss people when my nose is runny."
Also another time, Chris was helping her say her prayers and in the middle of his sentence she looked at him and said "Amen" and hopped into bed! ha ha ha!!

Oct 31:  On Halloween we dressed Jenny up as a clown and took trick or treat goodies to friends.  Jenny was so excited and surprised when they gave her goodies back!  It was such fun taking her around trick or treating like that.

Ready for Halloween!

First Thanksgiving all on our own.

Nov 27:  Our first Thanksgiving alone.  I missed our family and was filled with such gratitude for the gospel that make us a forever family.  I'm so thankful for the bounty of life, for a kind and gentle husband who is so helpful and loving.  I'm thankful for two adorable little girls who fill our lives with sparkles and sunshiny showers of giggles and smiles.   I'm thankful for good health and the word of wisdom and the so many blessings I take for granted.

Dec:
Weston Ward Christmas party
Jenny was so excited to see Santa.  She ran to the back where Santa was, all excited.  Before we knew it she was running to us with her goodies!  She must have been the first one on his lap!

Christmas in Rexburg!  My Dad called some travel agents and got us a great flight deal.  Ah it was so fun to be with them again!  Jennifer was thrilled and it was like she'd never left.
Flying to Rexburg for Christmas
Jen brought cheer to everyone she saw when she told them “We’re going up up in the sky, where the little birds fly!”

Jenny has been so happy to be here with her grandparents.  She's really clung onto them.  I said to her "I love you Jenny" and she said to me "Well I love grandma and grandpa."  She keeps saying that Sharilyn is mine and she is theirs!

Grandma Clarke had a headache and put her head in her hands.  Jennifer thought she was crying and said “Don’t cry Grandma or you’ll be acting like a baby and we will have to put you in a crib and feed you a bottle.”

Also learning something interesting when Jenny told us "“Grandma washes the dishes first and then puts them in the dishwasher to fertilize them.”

She must have had a funny dream because first thing she said as she awoke one morning was "Camels were eating my eyebrows." Once it was elephants eating her stomach.

January 3rd 1981
As we were saying our goodbyes, preparing to head home, I wasn't sure how Jenny would take it.  She has loved being here.  Everyone was tearful.  Little Jenny got so brave and seemed to understand what what going on.   She pointed a finger at Mom Clarke and said "Don't cry.  You don't need to cry.  We will come back.  Now go in the kitchen and get a drink of water for yourself." She seemed so grown up and so cute.
